Yup, I Slept With Tiger, Too

Ha – Gotcha!! As if. For the record, he is sooo not my type.

While shopping for some new jeans today, I ran across this sassy tee. While I ultimately decided it wasn’t worth spending $28 on, it was most definitely fun to snappy snap snap this shot for posterity’s sake. Funny thing in the process – the difference between the Tiger Woods scandal and the brouhaha over David Letterman and his peccadillos came to mind.

Not that I’m excusing Letterman, but the differences here are clear. Letterman screwed up, the truth came out, and he manned up. He walked to center stage and admitted he was a jerk. And took his public lumps. Then he went off to face his wife and take what I’m sure were even more lumps. Tiger, on the other hand, hid. Then he hid some more. Then he posted a note on his website and said, essentially, “leave us alone.” Then he hid some more, on a boat. And then, he upstaged a golf tourney to hold a press conference – a press conference to which relatively no press were invited. He prohibited questions during the course thereof and, ultimately, continued to act like the control freak he has always been.

I have great respect for the guy for his talent and for what he’s done for he world of golf. I don’t begrudge him any of that. But as a human being, I’ve gotta admit, he’s not my favorite. Thus, it’s no surprise that he’s the butt of incessant jokes, including the one on this tee shirt.

My thought. People are human. We make mistakes. Sometimes big ones. But, dealing with them head on is always better than skulking around, pretending it didn’t happen, denying – or any of the other things that people often mistakenly try. We humans have an amazing capacity for forgiveness. But, in most cases, we respect an honest admission of guilt and some demonstration of humble pie. It’s hard to respect the way that Tiger has behaved.

And that’s why there are tee shirts like this one.

What do you think?
